The Only Grant-Writing Book You’ll Ever Need was a required text for the grant writing course at City Vision University. Truthfully, for informative purposes and an almost insider’s look at grant writing, this text is the only book anyone would ever need. Not only is the text updated to reflect trends in the area, but it is also written to give the reader a realistic look at the world of grant writing.

The text begins with the basics: what is a grant and grant writing, who can apply for grants in different sectors nonprofits vs. individualstypes of grantmakers foundations and government grantsand the reality of expectations one should have in writing a grant proposal versus winning a grant. With this type of beginning, the reader is automatically prepared to understand “what they don’t tell you” about grant writing.

While others may have been annoyed by the level of repetitiveness of some phrases such as following the grantmaker’s guidelines, the only grant writing book, I thought there was a purpose in the repetition. They were screaming for the reader to pay attention to this detail. Due to the level of “intangibles” the things grantmakers don’t tell grant writersI believe it is necessary to make sure to drive those points home. The text is thick, again due to the level of intangibles and insider’s reports from grantmakers, so even if a reader highlights points it is still very useful for the authors to take time to repeat most important points.

That way, it is stuck in the reader’s head. There is a method to the madness. Overall, the text is an easy read. If someone is interested in grant writing, whether a fledgling writing or seasoned, I would definitely recommend this text, the only grant writing book.

It is affordable and gets straight to the point. I would also recommend using this text in conjunction with Tori O’Neal-McElrath’s Winning Grants Step by Step workbook for developing grant proposals. I was pretty disappointed with this book, it is written in a sort of ‘power advice lecture’ style rather than giving clear, concise and direct information on how to apply for a grant.

Instead you get a bunch of anecdotes and suggestions that are more like tips and tricks and things to keep in mind, the only grant writing book, and I found the writing style uninteresting. The title is misleading, essentially, and I realize I will just have to approach the grants I am looking at on a case by case basis.

In fact most of the points in the book seem to be fairly self-evident if you’re applying for a grant that you know about, the only grant writing book. This book seems to be more aimed at people just looking to make money off of the government by applying for whatever grants they can, which feels sort of swindly. If you are just looking for something to help you with a legitimate grant look elsewhere.

Jam-packed with Advice on Writing Stories into Your Proposal In the fourth edition of The Only Grant Writing Book You’ll Ever Need, I found the authors’ general opinions to be skeptical but realistic.

As a PhD student requirement and useful function to learn in many doctoral programs, I enrolled in Pepperdine University’s grant writing course. I chose to review this book as a way to familiarize myself with the process.

As someone without any background in the only grant writing book, I found this book to be of great service to me in preparing an applied research proposal for funding. Â Most suggestively, I found it useful to read the Table of Contents first and plan to read over the most relevant sections first for my uses before reading the whole book. These included the The only grant writing book which I found quite practical, some in list format and sample grant proposals were also provided.

Significant aspects of this edition were the meaningful inclusion of purpose and storytelling. Even if you cannot digest or read this entire book, read Lesson 1 and maybe Lesson 2and then skip to page 74 on Individual Grant Seekers. Lesson 1 highlights the importance of knowing who you are and why you want a grant. What are you doing in the world? Think big picture.
